So growing my mom always bought these things called Cinnamon Twists of also known as French Twists. They are pretty much a puff pastry covered in cinnamon and sugar.

Needless to say they were one of the most addicting snacks of my childhood. Unfortunately we cannot find them often these days, so we started making our own.

Let’s just say that this recipe is SUPER simple and makes a ton! If you are a fan of crunchy and cinnamon flavored treats then these are for you.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:

  • This recipe uses 4 ingredients which are pretty much pantry staples.
  • You can make then as soft or as crunchy as you like, depending on how long you bake them.
  • We like to make them longer, but you can customize to any size that you like.

This is one of those recipes that you just want to munch on all day and you won’t get sick of them, at least we haven’t but that plays kind of into the love we have for these already.

HOW TO MAKE CINNAMON TWISTS, STEP BY STEP:

.

.

  1. Roll out your puff pastry into about a 12″x10″ rectangle.
  2. Brush with butter until it is all covered, it doesn’t haven’t to be thick just make sure it’s all covered.
  3. Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture covering the surface, use your hands to press around and press down slightly.
  4. Fold the pastry in half the short way and roll out slightly to press it together so the cinnamon sugar get’s a little more grip.
  5. Brush with more butter, again it doesn’t have to be thick just make sure the surface is covered.
  6. Sprinkle with more cinnamon sugar covering the whole surface.
  7. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut your pastry into about 1″ strips, you can do thinner if you want as well.
  8. Twist your strips as tightly as you can.
  9. Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake in 400 F oven for about 20 minutes until golden and crispy, remove to wire rack to cool.

I love this Cinnamon Twist recipe because it is so basic and simple. You really cannot go wrong with this as it is almost guaranteed fool-proof.

Trust me when I say that these are super crispy, and just full of all that cinnamon sugar goodness.

CAN I MAKE THESE WITH CRESCENT ROLLS?

You absolutely can make these with crescent rolls, they won’t be the exact recipe as this as they will not crisp and puff up like puff pastry.

If you are using crescent rolls for this recipe I would recommend using the crescent roll dough sheets, I find that they are easier to work with.

The remainder of the recipe should remain the same, bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes or less, until the dough itself is puffed and golden.

CAN I MAKE THESE IN THE AIR FRYER?

Yes! While these will work just fine in the oven you can absolutely whip out that air fryer and make these bad boys.

Just follow the directions up to the twisting of the puff pastry then heat your air fryer to 375 F and play in basket leaving room between each one to puff up.

Cook them in there for about 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through the cooking process until they appear golden and puffy.

.

.

I personally prefer to bake these as it gives the best results in the crispiness and it really doesn’t take long to make them, which is key to this recipe being one of my favorites.

With this Cinnamon Twist recipe we love to make a simple dipping sauce of powdered sugar and milk, sometimes we will add vanilla as well.

Some of our favorite sauces that we have used for this recipe before include Salted Caramel Sauce, Baileys Hot Fudge Sauce and Cinnamon Dipping Sauce.

Now they DON’T need a dipping sauce, but I mean the added sweetness is always something that is a nudge in the right direction.

HOW TO STORE:

Cinnamon twists need to be stored in an air tight container such as a zip top bag or Tupperware container (our preference) otherwise they will get soggy with the moisture.

They should keep at room temperature for about 1 week.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Make sure you use puff pastry sheets, they usually come in a 2 pack, I have accidentally bought the wrong things before and it was not good.
  • Do not be shy with your cinnamon sugar layers, the more the better, it only adds to the recipe!
  • You can make these Cinnamon Twists on parchment paper, tin foil or a pan sprayed well, you just don’t want any of that melted sugar to stick.
  • Remove immediately to a cooling rack.
  • You can cut these smaller in length if you’d like and you can also make them thinner, we have done both and you just need to adjust the baking time a little, keep your eye on them.
  • To make them less crunchy you will just want to pull them out of the oven around 15 minutes instead of 20.
